Backyard swimming pools have become more, and more popular in recent years with a wide variety of affordable pool options out on the market today. No longer is it just the wealthy that can afford to have their very own backyard swimming pool especially today with not only the option of very affordable above ground swimming pools but also inflatable portable swimming pools for those families that can not afford the added expense of setting up and maintaining an above ground swimming pool all year long.

Just like most things in life swimming pools have a wide range of prices and styles. For those people who are on a tight budget and can only afford to spend a few hundred dollars there is the inexpensive inflatable portable swimming pools, but for those people who have money to burn they can opt for a completely custom designed indoor swimming pool with all the bells and whistles. I can’t cover every type of swimming pool that is available out there in this post, but I hope by time that you finish reading this that you will have a better understanding of the different types of swimming pools out there so that you can make an informed decision on your next pool purchase.

Portable Swimming Pools

Portable swimming pools are great for little kids or the family that is on a tight budget. They offer ease of set up at a very affordable price. If you are looking for a swimming pool for your child that is something more than the cheap plastic ankle deep pools that we had in our childhood, then this is the way to go. These pools start out with a base model that is 10 foot in diameter and 33 inches deep all for the low price of around $90. If you want something that is a little bigger 12 foot, 15 foot, and 18 foot diameters are available with 48 inch walls. This larger 18 foot swimming pool cost around $500 and has a 5593 gallon water capacity!

Above Ground Swimming Pools

Above ground pools are more for the family that has a little more to spend and is looking for a more permanent swimming pool. These swimming pools are great because they allow you the option of building a deck around them and turning your backyard into a place that your family and friends will really enjoy all summer long.

Most of these pools are round and 48 inches deep, but they also come in depths of 52 and 54 inches deep. Oval above ground pools are also available usually in the larger pool sizes. Most of these pools start out with a base model 12 or 15 foot model with prices starting out around $1200 not including installation and going up from there. If you are on a budget, and want a permanent swimming pool in your backyard then this is definitely the way to go!

Inground Swimming Pools

Inground swimming pools are one of the most expensive types of swimming pools that you can purchase. These swimming pools come in a wide variety of standard shapes and sizes with tons of companies out there that will create a custom swimming pool just to your specifications. These pools are the nicest looking out of the swimming pools that we have talked about so far, but they also have the highest installation cost out any of the pools. Plus these swimming pools are usually too difficult for the average do it yourself person to install. So an actual pool company will have to be brought in along with an excavator if you plan on purchasing one of these inground pools.

These are just a few of the more common types of swimming pools that are available, but there are many more types out there. Like the lap swimming pools that let you swim almost stationary against a pump fed current or wave pools that you see in more commercial swimming pools. The choices out there are endless, and so are the costs, so spend you time doing a little research before you plunge right in and buy your first pool. A little bit of research can save you a lot of head aches and money during the installation of your new swimming pool.
